Getting Grants

There is an online database of grant providers on Generosity New Zealand, but you may need to visit your local library to access the list available in your area. Alternatively, contact your local service groups, such as Rotary or Lions Clubs.

Sponsorship

Crowdfunding is another easy way to get money from friends and family. Just sign up for a page at Givealittle. Or, why not write a letter to a local business and see if they will partially sponsor you to attend?

Scouting Grants and Scholarships
available at a national level.

The Scout Youth Foundation and Jamboree Inclusion Fund work together, sharing and reviewing all applications to direct them to the most appropriate fund - SYF or JIF. There is no need to apply to both.

Please Note - a number of Scout Zones have specific trust funds available for hardship and many Groups and Zones also have funding available for financial support of their youth. Please make enquiries to your Group and Zone in the first instance.

Jamboree Inclusion Fund (JIF)

This fund is available for all youth members, Scouts and Venturers, experiencing financial challenges which may affect their ability to attend Jamboree. This is a limited fund designed to address specific financial hardship.

Grants of up to 60% of the participation fee will be available to Scouts, and up to 55% of the staff fee to Venturers (VST). Contingent fees, travel, and other expenses are not eligible for funding.
Applications are made on the official Application form from July 6th.
Applications can be completed by one of the youth member's Leaders or by a family member.
Venturers may complete the application themselves.
Fundraising efforts and financial support by the Group or Zone should be described in the application and will be considered during the review process.
The first funding round will take place at the end of July, but applications may be made at any time leading up to Jamboree. It is anticipated that funding rounds will be completed each month.

Scout Youth Foundation (SYF)

The Scout Youth Foundation (SYF) is a charitable fund set up to help make scouting available to all. The SYF provides inclusion funding to groups, based on Deprivation Index statistics. Donor support also allows the SYF to offer scholarships to Scouts and Venturers facing significant financial and other disadvantage to attend National events. Some scholarships are also available for youth in any section to support everyday scouting activities (fees, camps, uniform).

In 2026, a limited number of jamboree scholarships (10 to 15 in total) will be available to Scouts facing significant disadvantage and whose circumstances would usually preclude their attendance at a national event. Some scholarships are also available for Venturers attending Jamboree.

The maximum individual grant will be 60% of the total costs of attendance (in exceptional circumstances a higher grant may be considered). We particularly encourage applications for individuals from Groups in Inclusion funding categories 7-10. While Group Leaders can put forward more than one application, multiple scholarships would be awarded only in exceptional circumstances.
